Gangsta collective Purple City made a name for themselves on the mixtape circuit with their tight beats and revolving cast of MCs. The ensemble mix things up further on this 2005 release PARIS TO PURPLE CITY by visiting the City of Light. A host of French rappers appear alongside Purple City anchors Un Kasa and Agallah 'the Don' Bishop, reeling off rapid-fire rhymes in their native tongue. American rap's connection to the French scene has been largely through more conscious, progressive rap (see Guru's collaborations with MC Solaar on JAZZAMATAZZ), so it's interesting to see an international collaboration from the hustla's point of view. It helps that French is a language that lends itself beautifully to rapping, as Purple City's Parisian guests turn in some of the best spots on the album.
