Saturation by Softube
'I love the Softube Tape plug-in. It's great for just adding a touch of analog tape simulation to a final mix, but more impressively it's great for adding character to vocals and guitars. It provides instant glue for harsh or overly transient sounds in a mix.'Joe Chiccarelli. Mixer/Engineer/Producer for Beck, U2, The Strokes, Elton John
'Softube Tape is my new favourite saturation plug in. Parallel it with your kick or bass and drive it hard—thick and fat.'Howard Willing. Producer, engieer and mixer for Smashing Pumpkins, Sheryl Crow and Kris Kristofferson.
'Tape sounds FANTASTIC. I like Type A and C the best. Overall, the sound of it is outstanding.'BT a k a Brian Transeau. American music producer, composer, technologist, audio technician, multi-instrumentalist
Time to get reel! Softube's Tape plug-in adds cohesion and weight to your mixes. But Tape goes far beyond your average tape machine emulation. It includes three distinctly different tape machine types, and it offers the ease of use and low CPU strain that today's music creators rightfully expect.
Even in this day and age, it's common practice for computer based professional studios to run their mixes through at least one generation of analog tape. Why? Because even when used subtly, analog tape has a smoothing effect and adds cohesion and weight to a mix—it takes the recording from a collection of individual tracks into a song where everything is connected and works together. With Softube's Tape plug-in, you can have all that and more.
Three Machines in One
Tape includes three different tape machine types in one plug-in. Type A is based on a classic Swiss high end reel-to-reel machine, known and loved for its precision and linearity. Type B is much more colorful—it's a transformer based machine which adds extra weight and cream to the low end. Lastly, Type C is based on a British tape machine with a distinct vintage vibe.
Ease of Use
Select your favorite tape machine Type, and adjust the Amount knob to taste. In most cases, that's all you need to do to soak your tracks in analog tape sweetness. Easier still, load up one of the included presets, made by award winning engineers such as Joe Chiccarelli (Beck, U2, Strokes) and Howard Willing (Smashing Pumpkins, Sheryl Crow, Kris Kristofferson).
Feeling tweaky? Why not start by trying the different tape speed settings—you'll find that the slower the tape speed, the more pronounced is the so-called tape head bump, which adds low end to the mix. Or open the Remote Control panel where you can control the selected tape machine's speed stability, crosstalk amount and several other tape-a-liscious features.
Dense Sound, Light on CPU
Add a single instance of Tape on your master bus to emulate what most computer based studios do today—mix in the computer, then mix down to a stereo tape machine—or go vintage style by adding Tape to every single track in your mix. Yes, your computer will be able to handle it. As most Softube plug-ins, Tape is uniquely light on your computer's processor.
Extras for Studio One Users
If you run Presonus Studio One, you can not only use Tape as a standard plug-in. Adding Tape to your MixFX slot gives you Tape Multitrack. Tape Multitrack includes all the goodies of Tape, but in addition, you get selectable crosstalk between each individual track—and you can easily control the Tape Multitrack settings from a single interface. The Tape and Tape Multitrack license is one and the same. This means that if you're not a Studio One user but at some future point decide to switch to that DAW, you will already have Tape Multitrack installed, licensed and ready to go.

If you use cracked plugins to get great sounding tracks then I'm going to let you into a secret - if you have the talent then you don't need them, if you don't have the talent then no amount of plugins will help you.
This article is not about saying that those who use cracked plugins should be locked up and the key thrown away, I hardly think that’s going to make any difference. With that said it doesn't change my position on the use of them which is that it's wrong, it's THEFT and it's NOT a victimless crime. Setting aside those things I want to offer those who believe the lie that they NEED these plugins to make great sounding music some alternatives.
Here are 3 things to use instead of cracked plugins.
Tip 1. Use The Plugins That Come With Your DAW
Pro Tools, Studio One and Logic Pro X all ship with a mountain of virtual instruments and plugins, all of which are enough to help you create a great sounding track. I have a publishing deal and I've lost count of the times I've been asked by producers and artists what the great sounding piano is in the tracks - it's usually the Air Mini Grand and not some $500 piano VI (which I also happen to own), they look at me in disbelief. You'll be surprised by the amount of chart hits that use Xpand2 the free romper that comes with Pro Tools, Producers like Noah '40' Shebib have spoken about using it on Grammy winning albums. I could name endless hits that have been made using the plugins that come free with DAWs.
But it doesn't stop there, many music and post mixers alike use the included plugins to mix top songs, TV and film. Furthermore many of those working in Post avoid using third party plugins to ensure session compatibility throughout the mix of a movie or TV show.
The plugins that come with your DAW may not look as sexy as the third party ones, they may not have the name of a famous hardware brand emblazoned on them, but they are still very useful and in many cases they are the plugins of choice for top professionals.
You don't need cracks to make great tracks.
Tip 2. Use Free Plugins
If you still think there's something missing when you come to mix then there's hundreds of free plugins available, many of them excellent. Brands like Softube, Sound Radix and Blue Cat have some killer free plugins which you'll find in the toolbox of top producers.
Check out our free plugin list and you'll see EQ, Compression, Distortion, Reverb, Stereo Tools and instruments you can use in your tracks. Some of our favourite plugins are free ones. You don't need cracks to make great tracks. Brands are constantly bringing out new free plug-ins to add value to your plugin collection.
Each week we send out an email with our Friday Free Plugin, so make sure you are on the list.
Below are just a tiny selection of recent free plugins and other content you can use in your productions.
Waves Plug-ins Crack Windows
Sometimes you’ll find yourself working on a track and and needing a particular plugin to finish a track.
You may have a band coming into your studio who ask if you have a certain plugin that they need for the session. Now we understand how you could ask yourself 'why buy a plugin for one job?' That's a sensible question for anyone trying to make money from recording and mixing, but theft is not the smart answer.
99% of plugin vendors offer time limited demos of their plugins and this is what we would do if we needed to use one for a job for a limited period of time. A lot of our friends are plugins developers and they would all prefer you do to download a demo than use cracks of their plugins.
You don't need cracks to make great tracks.
In Summary
There is absolutely no technical or musical reason to use cracks, as you can see form this article there are plenty of ways to get what you need to create great music and post productions.
